As our smart & diligent orbiters and land-robers over moon, Venus, Mars and other planets unveil more on the harsh and hostile realities of the planets, I would be much more appreciable for the beautiful ecology of our mother nature. I always get much excited when I take pictures over the awsome features on earth whether they are living creatures or non-organic pheomenas.

The roots growing on the rock-face are phenomenal. Is this a natural chasm or a result of the volcano?
What interesting pictures. Love all those ferns - there are many in the woods here too as this is a rain-forest area.
The mountain itself formed as volcanic activities and the color of the soil is granularized black lava rock. The chasm, I think, formed as the hot lava cooled down suddenly.
